I was sooo pissed off yesterday. I read the latest Zeit Campus (it's the "student issue" of the big German weekly newspaper Die ZEIT) and I got really fucking angry. They had a special about engineer studies and EVERY SINGLE WORD in this fucking article hinted made it blatantly obvious that only men studied engineering. There was even an annoying little test to see whether "you could be a tinkerer, too" and all questions were aimed at men. Fucking annoying, and I didn't finish reading the article.
A few pages after that there was a large story about universities with either many female or many male students. Well, the female writer used every damn prejudice there is: the woman at a "men's university" pointed out she couldn't wear mini skirts without garnering attention and the man at the "women's university" used the German -Innen-suffix to indicate he was talking about both sexes "so naturally". And, as if that wasn't enough, the writer informed us that is was "Feministinnensprache" (feministic language? but with a strength on female feministic!)
Well, as if all that wouldn't have had me annoyed they added another story, this time written by a man (the other stuff was all done by women!), and he did a nice lil story about a female student having a part-time job as a prostitute!
So, this is what we are reduced to. We all want to wear mini-skirts, are not interested in anything to do with technology and the like and would love to try out prostitution.
I was so disgusted that I wrote my first letter to the editor. If you want to take a look, ( it's basically rephrasing what I said above, in German. )
There is still a lot of work to be done, girls, and boys, too! Let's not forget that and feel to comfy in our semi-equality version of modern life. (Still earning less money, still staying home to take care of the children, all the same, only with more exceptions to the rule!)
